How does your brother want to sponsor you?

If he is outside of Germany, he can pay your tuition fees if there are any for your study programme and give you €8040 (amount for living expenses 2013) to pay into a blocked account that will only be available to you after arriving in Germany and will only make 1/12 of the total amount available per month.

If he is settled in Germany and has sufficient income, he can sign a Verpflichtungserklärung (declaration of sponsorship) which will make him liable for all of your expenses.

If he lives in Germany and can support you financially. Then, he'll need an formal Obligation document for you which he can get from the authorities.

But if he is living somewhere else. Then you can open a blocked account using an Online platform such as X-patrio or directly visiting German Embassy and he can transfer 8640 euros amount in your blocked account to support you financially for a year.
