Indian Passport For New Born Baby

Dear Gurus,

First of all please accept my apologies if i am posting my question in wrong section of this forum.

I am asking this question on behalf of my friend.

My friend just got his british citizenship two months ago his wife still holds indian passport she is on indefinite leave to remain.

His query is he doesn't want to apply for british passport for his new born baby boy would it be possible for him to apply for indian passport on the basis of his mom still holds indian citizenship.

He is planning to move back to india for good and he doesn't need british passport for him.

Could you clarify our doubts please ?
