Earliest I can safely apply for Naturalisation?

Post by kishengajjar » Tue Jan 07, 2014 2:26 pm

Hi all,

I'm on an ILR which was granted on 09/04 last year, so will be applying for naturalisation in April this year. Was just wondering though, the fees will be going up on 06/04 this year and although it won't be a huge increase, I want to see if I can avoid it.

What I want to know is, does anyone have any experience of making applications before the ILR+1 date? Would I be able to make an NCS application 2 weeks prior to 06/04 to try and secure the earlier rates (or perhaps by post)?

Thanks,

K

Why the half measures?
If you want to apply go ahead and do it 28days before rather than wait for a further 2 weeks or applying 1 day before the fee hike comes about!

I don't want the application rejected because it was too early...

@kishengajjar - you need to have ILR for at least 12 months to apply for citizenship. The date of application is the day+1 that the UKBA receives your application not the day you submit at NCS. There is no 28 day rule for Citizenship like there is for ILR.

You can only apply for BC on 8/9 April at NCS and will unfortunately have to pay the new fees.

The only way you can apply earlier is if you are married to a British Citizen and have been resident for 3 years.

The FAQs has a lot of info, link below :
