Tier 2 General 5 years Visa

Post by a87m » Tue Feb 04, 2014 3:18 pm

Hi, I have seen news on UKBA website about 5 year Tier 2 General visa from April 2014. Does any one have any updates or information regarding the details or the criteria?

That's not good news.
But as I understand the new 5 year visa is still in proposal stage which will be presented in the parliament which may or may not be accepted. Possibly they plan to implement the 5 year visa hence they may have doubled the fees :D :D

Though getting the visa for 5 years will be a better option than 3 years so that the pain of renewal goes away and you can apply for ILR after 5 years :) .

Manci,
Some questions for you:

1.Will the sponsors have any update on the same i.e. regarding the new 5 year Tier 2 General?

2.Also will this have any effect on the 3 year visa? I guess once you are in country its possible to extend the visa for another 3 years.
I am talking about the 3 years visa.

3.I am planning to apply for Tier 2 General before 6th April. Would it be worth waiting or should I go ahead?
You never know they might bring in some new rules along with the 5 year visa.
I am worried only about the renewal which will come into picture after 3 years.
Does the renewing of Tier 2 General Visa after 3 years pose any problem? What are the general outcomes for extension? Any clue?

Thanks Manci and Jigiboy.

Not sure if they will allow Tier 2 General 3 years visa holders to switch into 5 yers visa,, but we will have to wait for the final outcome as no details have been given yet. I think they will give further updates by end of this month and next month. Hope for best.

Even if they don't allow to switch to 5 yr visa once you are in UK you will be able to extend the visa for another 3 years.
I think switching in country is easier.
Most of the rules will apply for people who apply from outside UK or after 6th April

Hi, I have just posted 5 years Tier2G cost £1,202 by Post. Anyone knows how long the processing time is? Is it longer or shorter considered this is new rule as per April 2014? Thank you.
