English Language Requirments - Awarding Body ?

Post by saqib389 » Fri Feb 07, 2014 2:46 pm

Hi Guys.

I have one question in regards to Awarding Body of English Language requirements.

My wife is due to apply ILR with me in 2 months and she has done Life in UK recently.

Now she has another requirement to clear (i.e. ESOL)

I have approached my local college and they have mentioned to me that she can do the preperation with them and then they will issue the certificate from either EMDQ or EDXCEL ?

My question is would the english language proof be acceptable from EMDQ or EDXCEL for ILR ?

Thanks
S

Have a look at this:
and also this:
Acceptable qualifications from 28 October 2013
We will accept a range of English language qualifications as evidence that an applicant has met
the requirement to hold a B1 level speaking and listening qualification. This will help ensure that all
those needing to take a test will be able to find one suitable for their needs and, so far as possible,
that no one who already has an English language qualification at B1 level or above will be required
to take another one.
The following qualifications will be accepted for settlement and naturalisation purposes:
• Qualifications covering speaking and listening at B1 or above from the Secure English
Language Test (SELT) list in the Immigration Rules, Appendix O. The SELT list is
available at:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... glishtests.
pdf
• Qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Entry level 3, Level
1 or Level 2, that include speaking and listening and that have been regulated by the
Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), the Welsh Government or
the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA). The qualification
must be listed as an ESOL qualification on the Register of Regulated Qualifications and
have been taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. The register is available at:
http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/2.
• A National Qualification in ESOL at Scottish Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels 4, 5
or 6 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
EMDQ and EDXCEL don't seem to be on the list.

Thanks for your reply.

i am very confused on this as i went to couple of colleges local here and they have advised me it is acceptable by home office for ILR but i can't find this in list of approved awarding body here:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -tests.pdf

Lots of people are doing this from EMDQ awarding body for ILR but i wonder are they really getting visa and what is the logic behind for these colleges who are offering english language from EMDQ awarding body. ?

Any advise would be helpfull.

Thanks

One more thing on home office website here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/busin ... s/#header1

It is mentioned here:

an (ESOL) at or above Entry level 3, that includes speaking and listening, and has been regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) http://register.ofqual.gov.uk

Once i open this link which is on home office website:
http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/Qualifica ... 600_7840_6

Awarding body is EMD there so that means it is acceptable ?

Hi

Don't search too much. There are number of exams that are acceptable by UKBA. Google ESOL Entry Level 3 Exam. It is the simplest one. You will find number of colleges offering this exam under Trinity College (the awarding body). It cost you around £125 and does not need any preparation if you wife can speak normal daily life English. I can inbox you some colleges if you want.
