Short answer - no. A quick look at the police recruitment website says:

"you must be either a British Citizen, a citizen of the EU or other states in the EEA, or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with indefinite leave to remain in the UK"

that is for being a police officer, there may be civilian jobs you can do as an HSMP holder.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.

May not want to be a copper anyway. Would you earn enough to qualify for your extension?

The one in bold is the key.

Check this link for list of commonwealth states

malikmoon - maybe you can arrest your caseworker when applying for FLR. Otherwise you will be rejected as it would not be possible to pass with a constibule's sallary.

I know of a case of an Indian man on student visa who joined the British Army under the commonwealth citizen category (He was on student visa and not on ILR). He subsequently served with the army as a soldier attended overseas postings and has now become a bonafide British Citizen.

I think with the shortage of soldiers to wage the UK and US govt's overseas wars, this may become the fast track route to British citizenship.
