I am a bit worried that I haven't received my South African passport and Naturalisation Certificate back yet. If I don't get it by tomorrow, I'll give them a call to query.

From what I gather from your posts, it doesn't appear that you used the secure delivery service for your supporting documents i.e. your SA passport and Naturalisation certificate. In which case, they have been sent by standard second class post. The Passport Office recommend when you apply that you pay the extra £3 for supporting documents to be sent by secure delivery, like your UK passport was. Obviously its too late now, but fingers crossed they haven't been lost or stolen.

now we are are about to move houses also.

should i/my wife call the home office or the local council?
The local council has nothing to do with any of this. You should call the home office and ask if everything is (as of now) in order with your application. Ask them if the fee has been received. You should also tell them your new address. Their call center seems quite decent.

Still waiting!

Post by cool_chap » Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:41 am

Applied through the NCS in the first wk. of Oct.2006 and got a prompt acknowledgement and a letter stating that character checks are being done. I called them in Feb and they said that they still waiting for checks. I called last night at 8.30 pm and the officer said that ' you will have your decision very soon'.
I married a BC in 1992 and had ILR in 1994. Stayed and worked in the UK in Social Services and the NHS. That makes atleast 15 years of stay in the UK. I hope I will get some positive news soon. Knowingly I did'nt break the law during my stay and travelled abroad often , but not exceeding a month every couple of years. Any advice is gratefully appreciated. Cheers.

Okay, Its been 3 days since I received my UK passport and no sign of my other passport and certificate. Should I start worrying? I think I'll call IPS on Monday.

Why did i just not pay the extra £3 for my supporting docs...doh!

Some councils only hold ceremonies once per month and if you miss one you need to wait for the next one. Brighton for instance has one on 18/07 and the next on 22/08. I got my letter on 21st June so I could book the one on 18th July.

Thanks SK1.

I'm not sure why it took so long. At first they offered me end of September, then when I asked for earlier date they found 8th of August in different council. I don't mind waiting few more weeks :P

My experience with HO is that the more doc evidence we provide the quicker the response.

I know some people advise not to submitt doc evidence unless HO asks for explicitly in the app. form or guide.

For example AN form asks for Tax details but no mention of P60/P45s in case of permanent employees. If you submit P60s in case of permanent employment & non- EU origins / SA Statement in case of a Limited Company contractor the response would be quicker than without doc evidence.

As a perm. employee my frind received HO approval in 3 weeks and I also received HO approval in 3 weeks even though i am a Ltd Company contractor.

Dawie,

No, it arrived in the same condition I sent it. It was just folded one...

I wonder what they did with yours. Did they crumple it and played catch in the office to relieve stress...I know its not funny, but there should be no reason why it had to look any different to mine.

Sorry mate.

I don't know what they did with it. All I know is I gave it to the UK passport office in person in a plastic sleeve in pristine condition (unfolded) and it came back to me, missing it's plastic folder, folded, dog-eared and somewhat ruffled. I guess it was too much to expect them to have sent it back to me in the same condition I gave it to them. Maybe they wiped their arses with it?

Luckily my South African passports came back relatively unscathed.

By the way, did you remember to apply for permission from the South African embassy before you aquired your British citizenship?

Oh yes, I wouldn't dare not too.

I know some folks who didn't do it (they got naturalised a few weeks ago), and now they have to send their ID books and SA passports back to SA House in London. I guess they don't have to, but legally they have no right to use them anymore...right? How will the SA government ever know?

Cheers
