If the PBS system doesn't award points for English Skills or UK NARIC doesn't deem the course to be taught to the requisite level then she'll have to sit an English test. See (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -tests.pdf)The points based calculator http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pointscalculator. You can dummy most questions, but on the English Skills Requirement, put in your degree information, and it will say if you're awarded 10 points. You would need to print off the screen the shows the 10 points awarded for English Skills against your degree details along with the original degree certificate. If there are 0 points awarded for English Skills, then your degree won't meet the requirement.
Behind the Guide is an entire set of rules set out in legislation and policy. It will not include everything you may need - but should address the most common issues.prasadduddi wrote:I am also confused with conflicting information from UKBA.
In the Form AN and Guide AN, they haven't mentioned anything about PBS Calculator but in the link below it is mentioned that if the qualification is recongnized in PBC it is enough to show it as proof.

Thanks for your reply, from which mail id you got the reply.
Could you please send me actual mail to prasad.js79@gmail.com
Hi prasad, could you please forward me the email which you got from HMRC ( atul_temp@forward.cat ) . I have mailed HMRC and have not got any confirmation back from them. Though I am going to use the printout, it might help to have a copy of this email as well.prasadduddi wrote:Quick Update,
I too got a reply mail from UKBA stating that PBS printout is sufficient.
So it is not required to get NARIC letter if the degree is recognised in PBS and points are awarded.
Yes, check please that on PBS print out that 10 points are awarded for English.alladin wrote:Hi,
I have taken ILR on Feb,2013 (hsmp+Tier1 5 year route) and was planning for taking citizenship.
I have a query about english requirement. I can see my degree (taught in India) getting 30 points in the point based calculator. I also have a degree certificate and a letter from the uni saying that the degree was taught in english which I can submit along the application.
According to the notes here, https://www.gov.uk/english-language, it doesnt seem to be necessary for me to take the naric route or exams like ESOL to prove knowledge of english language. But could someone please confirm whether my assumption is correct?
Many Thanks,
alladin

From the point based calculator, I can see I get 30 points for the degree and 10 points for English language. I hope this should meet the requirement for knowledge of English language.

I did get points for degree. Is your awarding institution listed in the available list?srivathsa wrote:Hi,alladin wrote:

Did you get points for degree and English language separately? because when I tried the Calculator, it showed me points only for English language (10 points), but i can't see anything for Degree, which I guess is important.
I used the link for PBS from this page https://www.gov.uk/english-language
PBS: https://www.points.homeoffice.gov.uk/gu ... ment.faces
I also spoke to my local council re the English eligibility and they confirmed that they will accept PBS calculator printout as evidence, but it should show atleast 20 points for Degree.
Thanks
Sri
I am not sure in this case as I can see my degree listed. Is there any chance your degree from the awarding institution's has been been removed from NARIC database?srivathsa wrote:Yes, its listed, and I used the same PBS calculator successfully for my ILR application last year.
What I am not able to get is the points for Degree separately. I can see points for overall, salary, maintenance, english language, but not degree.
srivathsa wrote:The university and the degree is still listed in the calculator. I think the problem lies in the first question, if you choose Tier 2, then you wont see points for degree, and if you choose Tier 1, you will see points. Don't know the reason behind it, but I saw it in another thread, where someone in Tier 2 had to do it as Tier 1 to get the points printout. I am going to have to try the same.
thanks
