Want to Bring My Mum Parmanently to UK - Pls Advise

Post by nchowdhury » Sat Mar 01, 2014 10:31 pm

My mum is now old and there is no one to look after her. she is in India at present. Now she is 65 years old, she was very independent lady but now age is taking toll on her and now I have to look after her. She don't know English at all by the way.
Could anybody advise me what visa should I apply for her.

Your help, guidance and help will be highly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.

Hate to tell you this - it's almost impossible. She'll need to require help with every day task such as washing and dressing. You'll need to provide an undertaking that you won't use public funds to look after her for 5 years and then you'll have to prove - having undertaken such a responsibility - how that means you can't afford to pay someone to look after her in India (which is, of course, entirely possible).

The rules changed in July 2012 and in the 2 years since there's been one anecdotal success in this visa class. I'm not aware of any direct successes reported on this board.

You should also be aware that to apply for the visa will rule out all future visitor applications.

Hi MPH80,
First big thank you for the reply, much appreciated.

I can prove and provide undertaking that I will not use public fund. So far entire life have been working full time without, never took public fund what so ever. Only facility I get is 25% less on council tax because I live alone that's all.
But having said that, the other side of the story to prove undertaking in India. How can I do that.
Any other advise?
Regards

You need to read what I've written - we are only aware of ONE success in 2 years. If your mother is not so ill that she requires help washing and dressing - then it WILL fail. If your mother is that unwell then someone is there looking after her right now!

So - if there's someone there - you have to show:
a) Why they can't continue
b) Why no one else can take over (including paid help)
c) Why it would be unaffordable for you for anyone else to take over - but yet you can afford to keep your mum here without public funds.

This isn't difficult - it's impossible.

The only time I can see this making sense is if the relative is in an expensive country - say Japan or the USA. Then it might make monetary sense not to pay for live in help and yet it's affordable to look after them in the UK.

I have a friend in a similar situation. She is currently in the UK on a visitors visa but is intending to apply for the adult dependent visa later this year. She is not unwell but has no family here in the Bahamas and friends are gradually leaving. It will be very expensive to have someone to look after her when that time comes and it would be to hard to find someone, not just to take care of her, but to manage her affairs. Her children in the UK are more than financially able to look after her. However, we all realize that getting the visa will be probably impossible. My question would be though, as long a she can show her savings here and her property documents, would that enable her to be granted further visitor visas in the future?

Probably - but it'll depend each time.
