NCS is National Checking Service - for 40.00 (Ithink I remember that correctly) they check all your documents for you and you get to keep them! Its really good as they send your papers for you and give you a post office number so you can check on the Royal Mail website that it is received.

Did you post yours then?

Not really. The best thing about using NCS (Nationality Checking Service) is that you get to keep your passport. I can live without other docs but not without my passport. Not for that long anyway.

They photocopy it and send it alongwith your application and copies of any other documents. In my case they only took a copy of the passport and the life in the UK test pass letter (even that in my opinion was unnecessary as I had taken the test as a requirement for ILR, not at naturalisation time).

The service is provided by most local authorities and the fees vary from council to council (I believe), vary between single, couple and family applications and also depending on the day of the week. My council charges extra for Sunday appointments on top of their Mon-Sat fee for example.

They check whether you have filled in all the relevant sections and also check your absences (dates and lengths) on the form and compare to the passport. They give you a receipt and send your application by special delivery (next day arrival).

I didn't need to have my application and documents checked but keeping my passport was the reason behind using NCS.

This post is specifically opened to keep a track of timelines for naturalisation applications and not for ILR or any other category. Please search the forum for answer to your specific query, if you do not find one, you can open a new thread.
In a nutshell to answer your query, you can avail PEO service, which is a same day service that deals with ILR applications.

ILR to Citizenship

Post by willsk22 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 9:24 pm

Hi Guys,

wife got ILR this JULY (08) two years after receiving spouse visa and entering in AUG 06 (so 2yrs - 28 days or whatever it is...)

we understand that citizenship is 3 yrs and can take MONTHS !! but can we not apply until

1, 3 year point from issue of spouse visa (27 JUL 06)

or

2, 1 year from ILR being issued (07 JUL 08)

or

3, 3 years from date of entry (01 AUG 08)

ANY GUIDANCE APPRECIATED !!

Hi Will & Aliona,

I believe in your case, the earliest you could apply would be #3: 3 years from date of entry.
From UKBA website:
In order to demonstrate the residential requirements for naturalisation you need to:

have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years (this is known as the residential qualifying period); and
have been present in the United Kingdom three years before the date of your application; and
have not spent more than 270 days outside the United Kingdom during the three-year period; and
have not spend more than 90 days outside the United Kingdom in the last 12 months of the three-year period; and
have not been in breach of the immigration rules at any stage during the three-year period.
You need to ensure that your wife was physically present in the UK exactly 3 years before the day she applies (so 1 Aug 2006 + 3 years = 1 Aug 2009). Of course, you can apply after this date as well. Just remember to think back to 2006 - was your wife out of the country at all after August? Avoid those days when applying in 2009.

Maibesa: Congratulations!!!
