It looks like passport offices will begin working from next week.
Next week, processing online applications will start, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney confirmed.
He said staff at the passport office have processed 6,000 online renewal applications during the Covid-19 crisis.
These represent about 20% of all applications currently in the system.
The minister added that some of the staff at the office were re-deployed to other areas during the crisis, with some taking part in contact tracing.
Operations will resume to normal in the coming weeks and months, said the minister, who indicated that online services should resume normal turnaround times of about two weeks by Phase 3 in July.
Coveney encouraged people to apply online, stating that it is by far the quickest way of getting your passport renewed. Those that have applied through the paper application can call the office, he said.

Does the passport office return the original certificate of naturalisation once the passport is printed?

Did you apply online or via post? Also 4 March was the date you applied or was it the date the documents reached their office?

I am in similar situation. I applied for passport on 4th and documents reached in the 6th. I also asked for return for original documents which they did. My travel plan got cancelled anyway due to covid. Passport application remains in the processing stage. The original return of passport date was 27/3. What was your original date of return?

If you apply for your first passport online, you will be required to print out a summary of your application, and bring it to your local Garda station for verification. If you apply using a paper application, you will need to bring the completed application to your local Garda to have it witnessed.

If you are applying online from the UK for a first Irish passport, do you need to include your UK passport or driving licence? It says to include it under the "Citizenship and Identity Documents" section for all applicants, but then says a copy certified by your witness is OK. Then later on in the "Citizenship Category" it says to include your FBR certificate AND original passport. Is the certified copy OK for this part as well?

When I sent my application over, I was told to submit the original passport. But when I then contacted them to get my passport back due to unplanned travels, they sent it back to me right away and told me that I should have just submitted a certified copy. So I'd say a certified copy should be fine.

Tidy. Cheers, pal. Had my FBR confirmation of address email a couple of days ago, so hopefully the certificate will turn up soon. I've done the passport application online already so I'll just get someone to sign my stuff and then when that arrives wang it all back in the post.

Hey guys. Are there many who applied early March and are still awaiting processing of there first time application. I applied on 3rd March and even after mora than 5 months now its still under process. I called them many times but they just keep on saying to have patience. This is rediculous now.
