Thanks. If this is the email id, I already contacted them but received an automated email as response stating that - 'the email is only for appointments and not for passport enquries. For passport enquiries , please contact UK passport helpline'

Looks like I'd have to wait for their call then. Fingers crossed. Return ticket booked on 20th Sep .

They did respond to my email.

Have patience.. close to getting it done.

We just did the online exit permit form. The earliest date we got was 20th which doesn't help us. We have a flight to catch on 14th! Wife will be going there to talk to them. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Ram, good luck .

By the way regarding exit permit-
I called FRRO ( Hyderabad) office and they asked me to approach either FRRO or local commisioner of police office to obtain the exit permit. Steps are as follows ( from what they mentioned)
Once you receive the British passport for the little one-
1.Fill the online application form -
http://boi.gov.in/content/online-registration
select the second option/link

2.Submit the application and take it to local police commissioner office and submit the application.
You would need to take the little one to the office ( thats what they mentioned when i went to the local police commissioner office in vijayawada)
Documents required-
1.Kids UK passport
2.Air tickets ( including for kid)
3.Passport of parents ( whoever is accompanying the kid on the way back to UK)
4.Address proof in India ( as provided in the application) such as utility bill etc
5.application fee of ( USD 80)

They said the whole process may take 2-5 days ( it also includes police checks at local address)

I shall update as I hear anything on this.

Hi Friends,

i have a question, my first baby born in India and i have to apply her British passport from India Hyderabad,
i am having British passport and my wife on ILR, the question is i paid a quick visit to India due to festive season and other circumstances i could managed to get hold for baby birth certificate, and i traveled back to U.K. And my wife isn't in a situation to go apply at least for a month or two.

My question is can any one from my family members say my nephew can apply on my behalf?
or any one from both parents should apply the passport.

I have managed to get all the required documents now.

Can any one had the similar issue or experience please guide me how should i approach.

Many thanks for your help in advance

Thanks Arun for sharing your info in this forum. All the very best.
I am also going to apply for child passport at Chennai.
Since I work in UK, if I put a cross(X) "Father/Parent2, in the UK" option in the parent contact details form, will they call for an interview in the UK only? I hope they will not call mother too with child for the interview in Chennai. Am I right?

Hi Macro,

Thanks. I am in the similar situation. I am working in UK right now. Most likely the interview will be with the Primary Applicant who applied at local VFS on behalf of the child, But if they need they will interview both the parents. That is the reason why they ask the preferred location for each parents if they are not living in the same country.

Do let me know the how it goes at your end.

Latest update

Status of parents: Both British ( through naturalization)
Passport application submitted at local VFS (VFS-UK office Chennai): 18-Nov-2016
Application Received at Liverpool Office Via DHL Courier - 21-Nov-2016
Application Fee deducted - 22-Nov-2016 by CC
Passport interview: Waiting
Passport collected from local VFS : Waiting

Cheers

Hi rarun53,

I have few questions before applying my child application soon.

If you mentioned that "accompanying person not allowed",

1) Must I bring my wife and child when submit the application or me only submit the form?

If I have my child birth certificate only for my child address proof.

2) Did you fill India address or UK address in the application form?

In the counter signature section, they must tell years/month in the box

3) Do they need to mention how many years knowing me or how months knowing my child in the box?

Hi Guys,

I am pleased to know there is an option to get exit visa and OCI from India after getting British passport for a child.

I wanted to know if this same procedure is applicable if the child was born in the UK but currently residing in India? Or is it applicable only to children born in India to British parents.

Thanks.

If you mentioned that "accompanying person not allowed",

1) Must I bring my wife and child when submit the application or me only submit the form? - It is not required to bring your wife or child,( in my case my wife was the primary applicant as all future communication to this application will be to the primary applicant only including interview, collection of passport from VFS chennai etc. Since my son was just a month old i went along with my son and wife to VFS)

If I have my child birth certificate only for my child address proof.

2) Did you fill India address or UK address in the application form? -- I have filled India Address, For address proof we provided Birth Certificate, Hospital Medical Records which has same address and Vehicle Reg Certificate which has photo and Address, if you don't have any govt id with Photo, just mention what you have in the cover letter)
Refer the below URL which may clarify some questions on the address.

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... plications

In the counter signature section, they must tell years/month in the box

3) Do they need to mention how many years knowing me or how months knowing my child in the box? -- they must know the adult who is applying on behalf of the child not the child directly. so it must be how many months and years they know you

Hello rarun53,

Thank you very much indeed for your nice reply.

#1) I am a primary application (Father) to my child and I am applying this application with Parent's contact details form at VFS, Chennai and then back to UK for work. They may call me in the UK or may call my wife in Chennai for an interview.

While collecting my child British passport I won't be in Chennai. Can my wife collect the passport at VFS if she shows her Indian passport or any other IDs?

This is an excellent post and indeed has been very helpful when I recently made an application for our child born in Bangalore, India.
VFS did not take a few color photocopies and UK Passport have asked me to submit a few of them in a letter post my application. e.g. my previous passports, wife's school records in place of her birth certificate and proof of address in India.

I am in dilemma on the current address to provide. Since the child was born in Bangalore, would the current address have to be an Indian address and associated with wife's Indian home address? Wife and child will return to London after around 8 months and are currently living with either my parents or her parents. Wife has no proof of address at my Bangalore residence (her in-laws) and only has them for her parental home address in a city outside Bangalore. I am back in London, however with very frequent trips to India. I have also been asked to fill an additional form if one of the parents live in an address different to the child.

So should I give current address as wife's parental home address? or
Her in-laws address (my parental address) in Bangalore? or
UK address?

Many thanks for your responses.

Vivek
