see this http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... t2-gen.pdf

If the Tier 2 migrant is employed by an A-rated sponsor which will maintain and accommodate them and any dependants until the end of their first month of employment in the UK, you must send a letter from the sponsor which confirms this.

Otherwise, you must provide financial evidence showing adequate support for dependants. This must show additional funds of £533 per dependant in the account for at least 90 days immediately before the application.

Hi,

But it still doesnt say anywhere that even the main applicant has to show the funds if he is not applying at the same time.

Marriage certificate and marriage photos are not going to be enough to prove subsisting marriage. You have to prove that you are in regular contact with your wife.
Nowadays BHC is refusing a lot of application on this basis.
If possible provide your tenancy agreement to prove that you have proper accomodation for your wife.

Since your wife is applying for dependant visa, your wife need to enclose covering letter along with visa application.

The following should be included in the covering letter. About your relationship/marriage details, commitment to each other and your future plans in U.K, also briefly explain finance status (bank balance), about your job, salary details, accomodation details etc.

Try to draft a letter to include the above.

We got it today- approved
NOTE ALL- PLEASE LETS END THIS CONFUSION ON THE FORUM. WE ONLY MAINTAINED EQUIVALENT OF £600.00 IN MY WIFE ACCOUNT IN INDIA AS I HAVE BEEN IN UK FOR MORE THAN 12 MONTHS. I HAD NOT MAINTAINED ANY FUNDS AND THE VISA WAS APPROVED. I A WILL POST THIS ON SEVERAL OTHER POST SO THAT MAX PEOPLE CAN AVOID THIS CONFUSION.
