Referee a non-UK resident - child UK citizenship

GPs in the UK don't want to be referees for naturalisation applications, this is well known. You can use a family fried that lives in the UK that works in an accepted profession.

The government took GPs off the referee professions list so they can concentrate more on their NHS duties ... about 12(?) years ago.

Is it fine to have the child, who's born in the UK, reside in the UK without a legal residence status while their citizenship application (MN1) is under progress ? I've got my ILR in Feb 24, and the current dependent status of my child is coming to an end in June 2024. So he'll be without a residence status beyond June'24 and a few months from getting his citizenship granted.

If born in the UK, that is fine, provided
(a) the child is not planning to leave the UK at any point. Reentering the UK will require a visa and all the relevant paperwork.
(b) the child will not be covered by free NHS coverage during that period and will be charged 150% of NHS costs if any NHS treatment is needed. It may be prudent to arrange for private medical insurance for the period between the end of their current visa and the receipt of the registration certificate.

Hi All,

Is it required that the child is present in the UK when their registration certificate is generated and delivered? I intend to travel outside the UK with my child, who's applying for his citizenship, while his citizenship application is still pending. Also, as travel outside the UK is allowed, can I apply for his British passport from abroad to return back to the UK ?

Appreciate thoughts on the above scenario. Thank you

Free to travel.

Note that passports from abroad can take anywhere between 16 weeks and 12 months. Applications are a paper form and has to be posted to the UK with all original supporting documents. Plan accordingly.

Hi,

I just checked with a private health isurance company and they suggest the child has to be a UK resident to be eligible for a health insurance policy. However, my child's dependant visa will end in June and beyond that he may not have a resident status in the UK as he will not have a valid visa. So would it be impossible toget a private health insurance at all ? Has anyone encountered with such a situation ? Appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks

You can ask them what do they mean by qualifying as resident, if living in the UK is enough or if they only accept children with a visa. Different companies may have different policies.
