FOI response

Post by melimango » Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:31 am

Hi all, I requested this info last month and received a reply after I got my approval, but am posting it here in case it is useful to anyone:

1. What is the average number of ILR applications (SETO, SETM, etc) submitted in person
by PEO per week in 2012?
I can advise that the average number received in person by the PEO was 721.

2. What is the average number of ILR applications (SETO, SETM, etc) submitted by post
per week in 2012?
I can advise that the average number of postal applications received was 1,061.

3. How many SET(O) applications were received by post w/c 30 April 2012?
I can advise that the number received in this period was 1,404.

4. Of the SET(O) applications received by post during w/c 30 April 2012 how many have
been fully processed (documents put in the post)?
I can advise the number fully processed and dispatched is 143.

5. What are acceptable reasons for expediting a SET (O) application, on average how
quickly they are processed once the expedition request is made, and does UKBA
contact the applicant to confirm the application is being expedited?
We cannot provide a definitive list of reasons why a case would be expedited, instead all such applications are considered on a case by case basis. Where a request is received, if we do not agree to expedite the case we will contact the applicant to inform them of that decision. If we do agree to expedite the case, depending on where the case is in the process, it may be quicker to conclude the case and inform the applicant of the outcome of their application therefore a letter will not be sent in all cases but we endeavour to keep the applicant or their representative fully informed.

6. Based on other people's experiences, the documents are put in the post a few weeks
after the visa stamp date. Please can you explain what happens between those dates,
as in what prevents them from immediately being posted?
The visa stamp date is that on which the decision is made by the caseworking unit, however,
the visa is issued by a separate department and it can take several working days to implement
the decision

A total of 3344 March Settlement Application are pending to process, I guess UKBA are far behind. It looks like April Applicants may have to wait till Septemebr/Octobe
Just want to clarify who said this "A total of 3344 March Settlement Application are pending to process, I guess UKBA are far behind. It looks like April Applicants may have to wait till Septemebr/Octobe" is it UKBA or our own prediction. If this is true then "GOD HELP US"

Freedom at last

Post by littlebits » Tue Aug 07, 2012 12:59 pm

Hi all

I received my Biometric Residence Permit on Monday after a couple of mis-deliveries by the DX (Secure Mail Services). This torture chamber had me on edge right up until the letter was finally placed in my hand - sitting around waiting for that knock on the door, then calling the delivery company to find out where they were (four times, over three days). My Biometrics card was dated: 25/07/2012 - it looks like it went on a mini cruise before finding me.
The only advice that I can give any new applicants in this merry-go-round is to have faith that your ILR visa will eventually turn up and so try to not worry too much that something has gone wrong - which we all have the tendency to think. Though, of course this has not always the case for some of the people on this forum (eg: UKwannabee) whose PO error (and the UKBAs appalling delay in informing them) was exactly what we all fear (and caused my heart to sink).
It is shame that the UKBA doesn't place a human face to us applicants and understand that all we want is some clarification that our application is being processed and offer some ball park time line so that we wouldn't all have to trawl through the internet in the hope of finding some answers. This forum has been a godsend and I want to thank everyone on it for helping me through this excruciating period esp. GmanILR2012 for maintaining such a great up-to-date timeline, as it was the single most valuable resource that I have found whilst trying to navigate my way through this bureaucratic nightmare.
Best of luck to everyone esp. UKwannabee - I hope that they now expedite your application - fingers crossed.

Congrats, Littlebits! So happy for you!

I received some good news today - I actually received a phone call from a Senior Caseworker @ UKBA (who looks after complaints) apologising for all the inconvenience I've encountered with my application. She said there is no excuse as to why I had to wait 4 months to be told they didn't receive my March biometrics. She understands my frustration but wanted to call me to apologise for the way things have been handled.

She said my application has been put in progress and she hopes I will receive some news by the end of the month. I really appreciated the phone call as the lady seemed quite sincere.

Thank you to everyone for your support - I really appreciate it. I will let you know once I hear from UKBA.

Good luck to all of us waiting! :)

@ UKWannabe, glad to read your post, you really deserved that apology.

I wonder why you have to wait to the end of August to get your papers back, how long do they take to get those biometrics permits ready? Anyways, hope the wait ends soon!!

I am an April Applicant, I think it varies on who has your case, and how much buildup there is at the offices, though that isn't an excuse for anyone to not get the application, but I hope all fellow April applicants get their letters and other bits and pieces soon. fingers crossed guys!
