Blore.
Depends!
1. Did you apply in a country where applying online is permitted?
2. Did you pay for the application before 23-Dec?

The question asked is to apply for a NEW application for dependent route and you quote something from SWITCHING into the dependent route. That is not a correct quote.

AFAIK new applicants into the Tier 1 dependent route will not be affected and application can take place as per usual.
Hi mulderpf,

il_breeze post says new application for dependent *from UK*. So I am assuming the dependent is already in UK under some other category. Hence I quoted the switching rules. Do you think this is an incorrect quote?

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. I actually wanted to know if a dependant could enter UK on a tourist visa and to apply from UK. After reading your answers, I understand the following:

1. No, it is not possible to file a new (no switching) T1G Dependant visa from UK. This must be done from outside UK
2. New rules shuold not apply to dependants. I wonder if there is any link which can validate this statement.

Thanks a lot,
And sorry for the confusion.

No, you will have to consider other avenues like Tier 2. Tier 1 (General) is completely closed off now for applicants who are not in the UK.

Basically, to get into the UK now, you basically have to have a job lined up.

I wouldn't suggest trying for Tier 4 (Student) either, as this would seem to be government's next target.
