TIMELINE AFTER NATURALISATION APPLICATION SUBMISSION

Hi all,

My wife has applied for FLR (IED) - Work Permit. She is applied as she has chagned the employer. Her timeline is given below.

Application posted by Special Delivery Royal Mail: On 12 July 2006

Application delivered: On 13 July 2006

Ref. No. received: on 19 July 2006 (dated 15 July 2006)

She phoned today for the progress of the application, she was told that her application is not yet on the system and can contact in the next week. But in the last week also when she phoned, she was told the same thing. The application is not on the system because of some problem in the application like (supporting documents missing or funding problem) or because of rush at the HO.

Any advice on this is really appreciated.

Hi all,

Finally when I phoned HO today evening, I was told that my application is approved till July 2011.

My time line is given below

Application sent: 12 July 2006

Application delivered: 13 July 2006

Ref No. received: 19 July 2006 (dated 15 July 2006)

Decision made: 28 July 2006 (Got confirmation on phone)

Now I am waiting for my passport and other documents.

Sorry for trouble given to all of you and thanks for the help.

I finally got myself to apply for the passport :

NCS or Postal : NCS
If NCS, which centre :CAMDEN
Date of submission or posting :09. 03. 2006
Criteria: 5 yr stay (4 + 1 yr ILR)
Date of debit of debit/credit card : 13.03.2006
Date of receipt of acknowledgement : 16.03.2006
Date of receipt of approval: 27.03.2006
Date of Ceremony: 04.04.2006

Date of appln. for passport : 03.08.2006
Method used : Post Office Check and Send
Date of Receipt :

Can anyone tell me when have they got their Original passport back - As in approximately how many days after they have applied ? I have asked them to send it by Secure Delivery and so am worried that if no one is at home my postman will take it back and I will have to spend half my Saturday in the Post Office Collection queue.

Same for the new Passport. They say 2 weeks but is it exactly at the end of 2 weeks or a bit before. What are the usual experiences of recent applicants ?

Anyone got their reference checked ??

Hey Tintin,

You used Check And Send which should see both your original and new passports in your hands within 2 weeks. This seems mostly to be the case - I got my new passport in 10 actual days. My original passport was mis-posted so took longer but that would normally arrive at about the same time.

They are posted back separately. The "secure delivery" option doesnt necessarily mean "signed for" - both of mine were simply pushed through my letterbox.

TintinHerge, the Passport Office no longer use the Royal Mail for the return of documents or the sending out of new passports. So no question of you queueing at the Collection Office. Instead they use a courier company, and since starting to use that the loss of these important documents has reduced drastically.

I have countersigned numerous passport applications over the years (includng some recently) and I have never been contacted by the passport issuing authority. That might be because I am on the medical register. But on the other hand, I have never heard of anyone else being contacted either.

(That doesn't mean, however, that the existence of the countersignatory or the veracity of what has been claimed on the form is not checked.)

Yeha just got the naturalisation approval letter in the Brown Envelope!

I have updated my time line above but basically it's taken just under 4 weeks. Tomorrow would be exactly 4 weeks from when to the NCS in Leicestershire!

This forum has been a great help, and I would like to thank everyone who has provided answers to my questions and reassurances when I have had doubts over various issues. I have been here though my ILR and now Naturalisation!

Only the passport seems to be delayed for me. Apart from that its been smooth sailing !!

Akuppa, I would suggest calling the Passport Office with your Unique Reference number that the post office gave you to check whats holding your passport process. Good Luck.

Thanks guys! Just received the invitation letter today, I notice it actually comes from the IND (and not the local council as I was expecting) They are stating on there that I should now contact the council to set up the ceremony date.

Interestingly it also says I should do so within 14 days, it doesnt say what happens if I don't.

Had a bit of a shock today, called up the council to find out about the ceremony, was told the earliest group ceremony would be 6 September, so I asked about a private ceremony, and I was told I would have to pay £260

If you ask me that is ridiculously, thats about the same as we pay for the application itself. I did a bit of googling and the highest private ceremony fee I could find was £175.

Has anybody else been charged a ridiculously large amount for their private ceremony? I recall not too long ago people saying they paid £36 for a private ceremony.

This is Birmingham City Council thats charging £260. I know they are probably trying to discourage private cermonies by charging so much but still.

One thing that I thought I would share with the group. I submitted my application at the Paddington Post Office on the 19th of July but when I called to track my application , the passport authorities told me that they had received my application only on the 24th !!!

That is ridiculously high. I paid £75 for my private ceremony in Wandsworth and if I remember correctly someone paid £120 for his in Kensington , but charging £260 for 15 minutes of someone's time in the Council Office is just unbelievable.

£260 for a Private Ceremony in Birmingham! A few comments to make about that :-

Birmingham runs Citizenship Ceremonies on two days per week and on each such days it has a minimum of two separate ceremonies. Accordingly very few people have to wait very long for a public ceremony in Birmingham. Maybe all the places are already taken on ceremonies being held this month, hence the offer of a 6th September date.
It might be the case (?) that the £260 fee has been set at a level to actively discourage people going for a private ceremony.
Even if that is the case it is unacceptable that the fee for a private ceremony to be so high, and so out of line with fees charged in other places. Living in Birmingham and having good contacts with quite a few Councillors, I have asked a Councillor to enquire about this, and if appropriate, to place the matter formally into the Scrutiny procedure, thereby forcing the relevant Cabinet Member to justify the current fee, or even provoke a reduction! I shall let you know progress on this when I hear anything
