Naturalisation timings

Post by svandersluis » Thu Oct 26, 2006 2:59 pm

NCS or Postal : NCS (Epping) by appointment
Date of submission or posting 2 Oct
CRITERIA - 5 yr stay (4 + 1 yr ILR)
Date of debit of debit/credit card 6 Oct
Date of receipt of acknowledgement 13 Oct (posted 6 Oct)
Date of receipt of approval 26 Oct (posted 23 Oct)

We were a bit surprised that this went so quickly -- I think the NCS certainly helps by ensuring that all our papers were in order and had been verified.

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys
I made my application for Naturalization in September via post. I recieved a letter of confirmation fo application and the fees are already taken from my account. I submitted my passport, my wife's passport (British) & our Marriage certificate. I still havent heard anything back from them yet. I wanted to find out how long does it generally take to get a reply from Home Office. What should i expect to happen next? Will they send our passports & document back along with some letter ???

Thanks
SD

Hi SD.

You have the confirmation letter, so just need to sit tight now.

Postal application processing times vary wildly but seem to be averaging around 2-3 months at present - longer if the Home Office has queries but they would have notified you by now if that was the case.

You can expect a letter informing you of the decision next, followed by your documents a week or two later. If successful the approval letter will give details of how to arrange an appointment to attend your ceremony.

Best of luck :-)

Finally got a letter from Home office today saying that my application has been accepted and they will send me the details for ceremony. Does anyone knows how you can arrange for a private ceremony in Birmingham or Sandwell area?

I did a private ceremony in Birmingham about 3 months ago, and it cost me £200 upwards. I would only recommend it if you are intending to have a lot of your own people at the event, they do the ceremony in one of the main event rooms, so you can invite a lot of people. You should receive an invitation from your local council in the next few days.

Hi
I phoned up Sandwell counsel and arranged a privated ceremony. It will cost me £102. I am thinking of applying for my passport straight away after i get my certificate. Can anyone advise how complicated this process is? Does you application has to go through all the checks again?

Thanks

SD, congrats!

The home stretch (passport) is pretty straightforward - you can get the application form from just about any post office and submit it there too. I'd advise using their 'check and send' service which is cheap and has a turnaround time of 2 weeks, usually less.

You'll need 2 colour photos which comply to the new biometric standards but I'm not sure where you get those done (the post office should know?) When I applied they accepted any old photos from a machine in a shopping mall, but that was the pre-biometric era..

Someone who's known you for at least 2 years will have to co-sign your application.

Take care
Kim

Thanks tekaweni.
I am really excited. Can't wait to get my hands on my new passport. I am going for work on a client site in Glasgow for couple of weeks so i think i might just make an appointment at the passport office in glasgow and submit the application personally ( Not sure if that will speed things up ). In regards to getting this application signed from someone who have known you for last 2 years, Can you get your family member to sign it?

SD, pick up an application pack from the PO and have a read thru the guide that explains how to fill it in, what supporting docs to send (original naturalisation cert, old passport, etc) and who qualifies to support your application.

From what I remember they cant be a family member, and they have to be British.

Date of Entry in UK: October 2001

I called them on December 22nd to say that my wife and I might be going abroad on January 9, and I wanted to know if they might ask for more info while we were away. The phone attendant said that my application was still in the que and that there was virtually no chance they would get to it before we return in mid February

I guess things have slowed down now. Signficantly!!
