Dear All,

I would like to add some comments here about the way supporting documents(any Foreign Passport, Biometric ID cards and BC Registration Certificates are sent back by IPS.

Although I enclosed 'Do Not Bend' prepaid 'Special Delivery' envelope, IPS still sent supporting documents by 2nd Class Royal Mail Post. They also kept the prepaid envelope (This is the second occasion).

When I called IPS for an explanation I was told by the customer service staff that, 'We do not acknowledge any kind prepaid self addressed envelopes, if I wanted I should have ticked the option to send the supporting documents by secured post and have paid IPS the extra amount £ 3.00/application'.

When I asked why my children's Certificates of British Citizenship were folded in half? When UKBA mentioned in the leaflet which comes with them that it is a value document(for us, not for them) keep it safe.

The only answer I got is, 'I am sorry about that'. Now the certificates have got a permanent rough crease in the middle because of the way they were folded.

There is no where in the guidance for applying British Passport mentioned that we can not include or IPS will not acknowledge prepaid secured delivery envelopes.

Passports, Biometric ID cards & British Citizenship Registration Certificates are valuable documents. And its a real pain and financial loss to replace them if lost.

I hope in future 'The Government' should stop sucking public blood in every which way they can....!!!!!!!!!
Totally agreed with you. I have paid extra £3 but they still sent me the documents in a small envelope and naturalisation certificate was half way folded.

Very poor service from IPS.
Even If you go to post office check & send service they do fold Citizenship Registration Certificate because they don't have A4 envelope to send all documents safely Its completely rubbish

This was my experience at the post office as well.

I can only hope that my certificate is returned relatively unscathed (except for a full width horizontal line).

I am relieved to see that interview waiting times in London are not as horrendous as would be expected during a busy season. I will be booking a place in London Victoria as well and can only hope it all works out before my trip in June.

Passport for: Adult
Application Type: First Passport after Naturalisation
Method of application: Check & Send
Date of application: 2/4/2013
Date application received by IPS: not sure but assume was 03/04/2013
Date of receipt of interview letter: 12/04/2013 (dated 10/04/2013)
Date of return of documents: 17/4/2013 (by DX Secure)
Date of Passport Appointment: 25/4/2013 (earliest in London was 24/04/2013)
Date of Passport Receipt: 7/5/2013 (after attempted delivery week previous)

Took about a month in all from sending at the post office. Passport interview had quite a few more questions than the ones posted on this board as a sticky thread, but my sense is that only about half of them are official questions that the interviewer was asking from the screen. The rest don't necessarily have a right answer that the Home Office are aware of, but are more spontaneous questions that only you would know from living your life.

As other people have mentioned, the PO Check and Send service is irritating in that they falsely advertise to send your passport by Special Delivery, yet do not give you an online tracking number, no delivery confirmation, no saturday delivery, and no insurance. Instead, they put your application in a clear plastic baggie and put it in a plastic tub on the shelf to await pickup. If they were loose it, this is a big deal to many of us who have expensive and time-consuming visas in our foreign passports.

Good luck all.

Passport for: Child
Application Type: First Child Passport (Baby born in UK whilst father had ILR)
Method of application: Fast Track Service - In person at GLW passport office
Date of application: 03/05/2013
Date application received by IPS: Documents brought to Passport Office
Date of receipt of interview letter: N/A
Date of return of documents: 11/05/2013
Date of Passport Appointment: N/A
Date of Passport Receipt: 14/05/2013

They have taken the my and my wife's passports and BRPs even though on the website they were advertising otherwise. They asked for wedding certificate, produced one (we have one each from our homelands) but they didn't wish to keep it. Asked for an update everyday for 5 days. Had a phone call back from the passport claims examination officer on 10th of May (7th day after the application) saying she has completed her checks, passport is to be issued, docs will bew sent seperately. Apparently overall process took around 11 days or so until the delivery so it was 40 quids or so pretty much wasted. Will ask for a refund. Suggestion: dont bother to use the fast track service if in same situation.

My time line mirrors yours but I have neither received a confirmatory text from IPS nor my docs returned. Your docs. seem to have been returned very quickly leaving just one working day for the IPS to assess them - is that correct? Also your delivery date of 6th May was a Bank holiday.

first adult uk passport application ... from Canada

Post by emmanuellesimone » Fri May 10, 2013 7:35 am

Not quite sure if there is anyone here that is in the same boat as me ... I am applying for my first adult UK passport from Canada (I am a citizen by decent)

So far, my timeline looks like this:

Passport for: Adult
Application Type: New
Method of application: Postal
Date of application: 01/05/13
Date application received by IPS: 2/05/13
Date of confirmation: 02/05/2013
Date payment processed: 03/05/2013

...AAAAAND I haven't heard anything since. In the confirmation email they sent me, they had advised me that they no longer accept money orders. So I emailed them my credit card info for the payment. I was actually shocked to see them take the payment the following morning. Hopefully that's a good sign! (Knock on wood lol)

I was wondering if there's anyone else who is applying from outside the uk who can share their timeline/experience?

Cheers~
