when you get letter that your application moved to 2nd ack, by that time they start the garda and social welfare checks, then if all fine, they pass the report to the minister who will sign the application, then they send you a letter saying "approved" to pay them 950 and ask for gnib card, once you pay and submit the card, they send you invitation to ceremony (near to the date of ceremony by around 30 days)

2nd ack goes to everybody (apart from minors) and regardless of how good character or bad. If they discover you are not good they ask gor clarification before submitting a final report to minister who decides whether to sign or not

@Rio29, just to support all banana07 already told you, if your file returns from Garda vetting and they needed more clarification/documentation from you concerning any issue(s), at this stage, you will be contacted by the Further Processing LSR Team to furnish the needed information and once all is cleared or sorted, the Team will pass on your file to the honourable minister for final approval. In some complicated cases, the minister may reject the application or defer the approval for a year or more depending on the complexities of a particular case. In all, just be happy :D

@cid1214, an application normally takes an average time of 3-6 months to process/approve if it's a straight forward case, that is, you gat no baggage of fines or court case(s) hanging on your neck..lol. However, some applications take longer than 6 months depending. I'd advise you look forward to getting your approval around Februrary/March 2015. Pls, don't quote me here in the future, this is just a personal advice and views! Good luck to you :)

I am just sharing this recent article by one of immigration solicitor;

EU TREATY RIGHTS AND APPLICATIONS FOR NATURALISATION
We have recently made several applications for naturalisation on behalf of applicants who satisfy the reckonable residency criteria on the basis of their EU Family residence card. In these cases, the applicants have been issued with EU Family residence cards and Stamp 4 permission for five years on the basis that they are a family member of a Union citizen who is exercising their Treaty rights in the State.

Ordinarily, the applicant is the spouse of a Union citizen who is working in the State. Several of these applications have been made prior to the applicant attaining five years permission to remain from the date of their actual grant of Stamp 4 permission by the EU Treaty Rights Section. For various reasons, they have sought to make the application earlier. We have made the argument on their behalf that they enjoyed an entitlement to reside since their date of marriage to the Union citizen and that their reckonable residency should be calculated from the date of marriage.

Until recently we had encountered no difficulties with this submission. However in the last two weeks, we have received refusals in two such cases. In both of these cases, the Citizenship Unit have explicitly stated that EU family permission to remain is taken from the date such permission is granted ie not from date of marriage. In both cases we have responded to the Citizenship Unit asking that they urgently review the refusals, making the strong submission that as the family member of an EU citizen who has exercised EU free movement and who has been economically active in the State, the applicant enjoyed a right to reside from the date of marriage pursuant to Article 7 of Directive 2004/38EC, (the Directive) the European Communities (Free Movement of Persons Regulations) (No 2) 2006 (as amended) (the Regulations). Our argument is that such permission was not contingent or conditional on making any application to the Minister; it was an entitlement derived from EU law.

We have not had this type of response until now and it remains to be seen how the Citizenship Unit will deal with such applications going forward. While our legal arguments appear sound, on a practical level these refusals may cause difficulties for applicants and anyone in this position is best advised to ensure they are in a position to make a permanent residency application or an application for retention to keep their permission in date and enable them to maintain their permission beyond the five year EU Family card.

Hi All,

I will share my experience of naturalization being on EUFam for 5 years. My application took 14 months back in 2012 in case you wana know how long it took in Alan Shatter days.

@CalvinKlien, thank you for your last post. What you and a few others bring to this forum is just immeasurable I must say. Well done! As for me, my application is in the 12th month and still counting but I'm encouraged by people like you who in the end got a happy ending to justify your long wait for a decision. The wait continues.. :)

The average processing time when Alan Shatter was in office 1 year. Only from August 2013 when he said the backlog is cleared that it started to be around 6 months or less.

Wow.. That makes us like living in heaven by getting within 6 months.

For some reason i still feel there would be approvals this month (even though no more ceremonies this year).. Approval batches come out always every months and so that means this November as last ones where in august
