HSMP - IT Specialist Role

Post by esther » Sat Sep 16, 2006 10:01 pm

Hi everybody,
I am applying for the HSMP and claiming points in the Specialist work experience criteria in the IT area. I am actually claiming the WebMethods certification to be a specialised skill.

The evidences that I am planning to submit are

- Reference letter from the employer - that demonstrates an initial graduate level experience and specialist experience for the last two years.

- Certificate provided by the WebMethods Certification coordinator Education Services

Could anybody let me know if this would be a sufficient evidence?
If anyone could provide me with a sample reference letter for a specialist role cos I am really wondering what would the caseworker expect from an IT specialist role as such? Or even hints on the IT specialist role would be much great.
ANY help in this regard would be much and much appreciated.

i am sure Certification alone is not considered as specialist skill set.

Usually it is easier to claim points for specialist skills if you have a academic certification (read degree / qualification) as a result of specialist study through research or coursework in a specific field.

I think voational or professional certifications are perhaps difficult to prove as "specialist", because of various reasons.

Given the field of IT, if certifications were to be considered specialist, every IT professional would become a specialist, and most of them would be super-specialists (no one stops at just one  ).

BTW, is that esther khor :?

Hi everybody,
Thanks for the very prompt responses. Yup I go with your points that getting professional certification in the IT is not so a difficult job. But here I am gonna claim 35 points for a 5 years of graduate level experience along with a 2 years of Specialist experience. The main and first evidence that I am gonna submit for this is the reference letter from my employer demonstrating the two years specialist experience with the specialist roles and responsibilities. And my certification would just be an additional proof.

Research and coursework - Are these things applicable in the software field also??? Like ... my question is .... has anyone of you submitted an application in the Specialist criteria???
If you have ... could you please guide me as to what kind of evidences the home office is expecting???

Sushdmehta - Nope am not the person you mentioned.

Many thanks
