Housing Benefits + Job Seekers allowance

Post by Sinner » Fri Aug 03, 2012 9:43 am

Me and wife has been granted ILR recently, I've been working part time since 2010 and currently on holidays. My wife is not working and never worked before in UK.

Are we eligible for housing, is there any limit of hours for part time workers to work to be eligible for housing benefit? I usually earn 10-12K per anum.
I may not be eligible for Job Seekers Allowance as I am already in employment but is my wife eligible for this?

You can find out what benefits you are or may be entitled to here:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/diol1/doito ... /dg_172666

You will need to find out your local housing allowance to calculate your housing benefit entitlement:

https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/search.aspx

I don't think there is a minimum amount of hours you need to work to claim housing benefit but you may be expected to sign on at the job centre depending on how many hours a week you work in order to be entitled to certain benefits.

If your wife has never worked in the UK she will not be entitled to contribution based job seekers allowance and you earn too much for her to be entitled to income based job seekers allowance.
