New British Rule?

Post by Junaidbinyasin » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:28 pm

Hi there,

I was told today by colleague, that if your kids are British and Ur are British than your partner can apply for British passport straight after getting ILR. so they don't need to wait for another year to apply for naturalization and passport.

Can some one confirm its true? If it is than where it was published any link please?

Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Many thanks.

...sigh... It is not a new rule, one may apply for naturalisation upon obtaining ILR if married to a brit and satisfies residence requirements. The questions is- how will that person obtain ILR in the first place! Not that they can apply to naturalise, ilr is more difficult per se.

Here's the link: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/briti ... ofcitizen/

A spouse of a BC can apply for British Citizenship immediately after being granted ILR if they have completed 3 years of legal residence in the UK.
Once BC is granted and they have attended the citizenship ceremony they can then apply for a British passport.
