job opportunities for telecom embedded programmer/tester

Post by aspihsmp » Mon Nov 13, 2006 7:47 am

Hi,

I'm an aspirant for HSMP. I wish to know how good is the job market in UK for an embedded telecom developer/tester with 5+ years of experience. I work in India.

Will there be any contract jobs for this kind of profile?

Thought people who tried jobs or working in uk will be the right people to seek information than in monster.co.uk etc.,

Thanks in advance,

aspihsmp

Try reading through this page:

HSMP - Basic Introduction
http://www.workpermit.com/uk/highly_ski ... uction.htm

If something is unclear about it, please respond with detailed question(s).

I suspect you are right. On that page, the second to last paragraph has this:
This is a permanent programme since 31 October 2003. Proof for all the criteria must be supplied with the individual's application in support of their claim. Under HSMP applicants will initially be granted 24 months' stay in the UK. Then towards the end of the twenty-four month period applicants can apply to remain in the same capacity for a further period of up to three years. After five years as a highly skilled migrant, applicants can apply for permanent residence.
The "one-year" reference could be "typo" or other proof-reading mistake.

I've not been following UK immigration in detail. Was it for one year previously? Maybe it's old information that was missed during revision.

.

Thank you for the heads-up.

It is, indeed, 2 years with the option to renew for three. The one-year information was the old one and was missed during updates.

Anyone who ever notices mistakes at http://www.workpermit.com is very much welcome to send us a note about it. Post in the forum (hard for us to read everything) or PM me or email webmaster@workpermit.com.

THANK YOU!

Thanks every one for responses/inputs.

I'm aware of HSMP process, procedure and recent changes, though not an expert.

But I'm wondering how does it answer my query on the job market.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have 3 friends who are in embedded systems telecom, working in the UK on HSMP. They seem to be doing good. For a first hand account you can contact them directly. Send me a PM and I will give you the details.
