switching from Tier 4 (student) to Tier 2 (general)

Hello Everyone!

I'm seeking to switch from Tier 4 student visa to Tier 2 general. I received an offer from a company which were ready to sponsor me. The salary they offered is above £20k, so this bit is fine. But, according to the occupation codes of practice introduced in July 2012 (http://is.gd/fTwNZi), in order for a company to sponsor a skilled migrant, the position must be classified as level 6. The position I applied for is classified as level 6, but I was told that this should be additionally approved by the UKBA. This means that the company in question will have to apply for this approval and wait for 12 weeks until the UKBA considers their application.

Therefore, I was wondering whether every position which could be classified as level 6, according to the occupation codes, must be approved by the UKBA before a company would be able to issue a certificate of sponsorship or my case appears to be specific?

but the salary must be appropriate, i.e. at least the minimum stated for the particualar SOC code, or £20k, whichever the higher.
