Some interesting and helpful comments relating to IELTS exams. How are the results for the KET exam interpreted?

These are instructions for the UKBA caseworkers/ entry clearance staff:


SET 17.5.1 Does the applicant need to pass the test overall?

No the applicant only needs to pass the speaking and listening elements at the A1 level they do not need to pass the reading and writing parts.

But the latest requirements say:

Refer to the “Result” on your Statement of Results:
Level A1 And:
Listening – Weak
Speaking – Weak
Reading – Weak
Writing – Weak

They require the Certificate and Statement of results.

It's ambiguous and maybe deliberately so. It doesn't appear to be possible to have a 'certificate' if the Statement of results show WEAK for Listening and WEAK for Speaking and an X for absent for Reading and Writing. Reading and Writing doesn't appear to be ignored for KET A1.

Greenie or kj29, or anyone else, any comments appreciated please.

I don't know about how they are graded but the fact that the 'lowest' available ESOL KET is an A2, rather than A1 level test must surely be a factor.
