From my experience, I feel that the test is not that difficult. Scoring 6 should not be difficult at all!

I did about 5 practice tests using Cambridge University books, before I took the exam.

IELTS exams: academic or general

Post by moganlal » Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:09 am

Guys,
Pls help which one is most appropriate for HSMP.
I guess academic is bit more tough and required quite a bit of preparation.
cheers,
Moganlal

HSMP_2007,

You could use the following link for booking IELTS online,

http://www.britishcouncil.org/india-exa ... gister.htm

I had used this link to register for my exam in Nov. Its quite convenient :)

Moganlal,

Im assuming that you are looking for the appropriate IELTS to attempt, Academic or General Training....If that is the query then you are quite correct in saying the Academic modules requires slightly more prepration. However, you can use IELTS results from either of the two modules towards your HSMP application.

Personally, I had attempted the academic module on 30 Nov...just in case I may need it anytime in the next 2 years :)

Thanks hsmp.applicant2007
I'm planning to take up general training to be sure that i get band 6 and above in first attempt and then provide that to hsmp.
cheers,
Moganlal

so which IELTS module are we supposed to take - Academic or General? If either is the answer - great as I can't seem to have dates available for General testing before Jan 20.

HSMP5thDec - since you already took the test and got application approved as well, which one was it? General, I reckon ?

Hi windmill, I took the Academic one, because on the available date (18 Nov) there was only Academic test in the test centre nearby.
Both types should be okay for HSMP use.
I only prepared for the test for only no more than 1 hr (only browsed the official website and got to know what it is and how long it lasts), and my result was not too bad - 7.5 (8.5, 8, 7, 7). so don't worry about the preparation, just book a date as soon as possible.
