surrender certificate for already cancelled Indian passport

Post by valsad » Wed Dec 19, 2012 7:47 pm

Hi,

Myself, my wife and my son became British in May 2010 and I cancelled all 3 Indian passport on the counter at Birmingham by paying £14 for each passport, applied for OCI on same counter and got our OCI. In those days Indian passports were cancelled by CGI Birminghan, not outsourced to VFS.

My querry is, I was not given any surrender certificate by CGI, just all 3 Indian passport stamped as Cancelled and returned with corners cut, so do I still need to apply again and pay fresh fees to get surrender certifictate or if I don't, will I be any trouble when it comes to renew/transfer our OCI in new British passport.

Thanks
V

OCI is a lifelong visa so there is no renewal requirement. also you don't need to transfer it to a new passport. It can remain in an expired passport and is good for travel to India as long as you also carry the current passport and the OCI booklet.
