IELTS - academic or general training ? which test to take?

Post by rajesh2013 » Wed Dec 26, 2012 5:00 pm

I have to take an English language test to get the appropriate 10 points. Does anyone know which is the proper test to take in IELTS, whether academic or general training ?

For Tier 2 general it is minimum level B1 which is 4.0 out of 9.0 in all 4 skills speaking, writing, reading and listening. Minimum score required is fairly clear from the UKBA website, but the type of test to be taken is not mentioned ( as far as I searched)

I've referred the approved English language tests and it shows both ... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -tests.pdf

Can anyone clarify this please ? Thanks.

Can somebody please reply ?

Since it says both, am assuming both are allowed and started preparing for Academic, also part of the exam is similar to both. But it will be really helpful if somebody who did the exam & got visa can confirm this.. Thanks.

If you are applying for an employment visa, you have a choice between General Training and Academic modules of IELTS as both are accepted. My advice would be to go for General Training because it is relatively easier than Academic.

Academic module is required for people applying for a student visa.

Thank you very much for the response...

I'll prepare for General Training... And'll update here how it goes, so that it'll be useful for somebody who needs it.
