related to English Language Requirement

Post by uk.destiny » Thu Dec 21, 2006 9:02 am

Hi All,

For English language requirement, I have one doubt.

In HSMP Guidance they clearly mentioned Letter from the Awarding Body stating that degree was taught in English.

I have done Degree from a college which is affiliated to the University.

My university is Awarding Body.

But studied in College which is affiliated to the University.

My University is saying that " we won't issue any letter regarding this.Your college will issue that letter"

What my doubt is... should HSMP team accepts the letter from college(which is affiliated to University)?

Letter from College stating that my degree was taught in English (The College letter mentioned the University Regn Number and the fact that the college is affiliated to the University)

Moderators,Please help me?

Thanks,
Uk Destiny

In my opinion, only the awarding body needs to issue the letter.
Awarding body in your case is the University and is not the college.

You are taking a risk if you enclose a letter from college and the best case is to make an attempt for IELTS. IELTS general is not that tough.

All the best.

Hi UK destiny..

Awarding body is whoose name appears on the degree certificate...

No doubts in ur case it is university...Show University the guidance notes...

Hi Paramjit,

Thanks for your reply. Yesterday I called HSMP people.
I explained the situation. They said letter from College is enough.
Should I proceed with that info. or I have to double confirm..

Please clarify it.

Thanks,
Uk Destiny

If HSMP people are saying this thing, then Go ahead...

But be sure, ur college letter head should be showing university affiliation.

The letter needs to come from where you actually studied.

But My Degree Awarding Body is University. not college.
I Studied in a College.

Guidance clearly states that "Certificate from Awarding Body......"

Gents,

In my opinion Awarding Body is the University as University decides whether the courses should be taught in English or any other language.
College cannot take decisions whether they can keep Medium Of Instructions in English or Hindi or in some other language.
Also the Degree Certificate is awarded by University no matter from which college you studied within that university.

I spoke to HSMP team for the same and they confirmed that if University is the "Awarding" the Degree than letter should come through them.

I am not sure what to do when college is a deemed university.

Hope this would help.

if you are going to take the word of HSMP people that the college letter is ok - definately get it in writing (email) and include that in your application.
If the HSMP people you spoke to were the Work Permits (0114 207 4074) helpline - you'll get a different answer everytime you speak to them.

If i were you - I would go to the college, explain the situation and the seriousness of the consequences, and see if someone there can get the letter "issued" from the university for you.

They are sending generic points even though we ask specific questions.

Related to English requirement there is one point

10. Why we will be testing English for all and what do people need to demonstrate?
Applicants under this scheme will be judged against criteria designed to better reflect the likelihood of a migrant's labour market success, and the use of English within the UK labour market is seen as a key part of these criteria.

All applicants will be required to speak English to a required level. English language proficiency will be tested at both initial HSMP and at extension stage. A standard of English language equivalent to the internationally recognised IELTS Qualification Level 6 will be required, although some alternative English language tests deemed equivalent to IELTS 6 will also be acceptable. Alternatively, individuals with evidence of studying a Bachelors degree taught in English will also qualify.

Evidence required for IELTS Test: IELTS Test report form, which must be less than 2 years old at the time of application.
Evidence required for alternative test: Original test report or certificate
Evidence required for a Degree taught in English: Degree certificate and letter from institution confirming degree was taught in English, letter from awarding institute and academic transcript.

This is to certify that Mr.XXX was a student of this college during the years 2002 to 2005 with university seat number XXXX .
"The medium of instruction through out his engineering degree was in ENGLISH".
but it doesnt show the date and the month in the letter, only duration will work out ???

This may look a silly question but this silly thgs makes big diffrence to refusal, dont wanna take chance so, should i mention even the date and month in the letter ???
