Application processing times for extending Tier 1(General)

Hi all,

What are the average processing times nowadays by UKBA for an application to extend a Tier 1 General visa if the application was made by post?

I hear that ILR applications submitted by post are taking a very long time, my friend waited 7-8 months for the passport to be returned back. Are Tier 1 General extensions that long too?
