Can you use STAMP-4 instead of a re-entry visa ?

Post by acme4242 » Sat May 04, 2013 6:25 pm

TIMATIC now says for flying back to Ireland
Visa required, except for Holders of a Residence/Re-entry
Permit issued by Ireland (Rep.).
before they only accept Re-entry visa.
When did this change ?

And is there a new STAMP-4 because ours is
just a ink print, that looked nothing
like a permit or visa

Where are you flying from?

Per what you've written I dont see any problem with someone flying in with a Re-entry Visa. Stamp 4 is just a proof of residence and whatever you were given as proof of residence is sufficient.

Even today the INIS says residents must have re-entry visa + resident permit
http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Re-entry%20visas

But TIMATIC has changed, before it would say "re-entry visa"
now it says Residence/Re-entry Permit issued by Ireland (Rep.).
I take "/" as meaning "or" as in Residence permit OR Re-entry Visa

So, does this mean, now you don't need to get a re-entry visa,
if you have resident permit stamp-4 in passport ??? that is the first question
And second question is, when did this happen ?

Before you had to get re-entry visa

Re-entry Permit by TIMATIC means Re-entry Visa!

You must have a Re-entry Permit/Visa to enter into Ireland. Could I ask why you have a Re-entry Visa but dont have a residence permit? i.e Stamp 1,2,3,4?

Yes the wording is pretty unclear.

I guess in their terminology a residence permit is a GNIB card, and re-entry permit is a re-entry visa.

But what they exactly mean by "Residence/Re-entry Permit" is unclear. The only document I know of which is both a residence and a reentry permit at the same time is a GNIB card with Stamp 4 EUFAM, but this is mentioned separately.

I think TIMATIC might have gotten a bit confused here ... And at least confusing :-)

I doubt the government would waive the need for re-entry visa as it would be seen as a loss of control, and also it probably is a good enough source of cash for them.
