Civil Partnership between an English Student & an Old Au

Post by Dan33274 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi guys, I wrote on here a while back asking for help with immigration rules for my aussie same-sex partner coming to the UK....Apologies, i lost my contact info (previous name Dan3274) so am writing here under a new name.

Just a quick update!

I stated that he would be too old to come over on a work visa and therefore a civil partnership may be the only option.
Well, we have since joined together in a partnership, and the rules around this are quite new. I managed to get a transfer to vet school here, and we are now living together!
The only rules that apply are that you know eachother for a week (have to provide evidence that you have lived in the same registration district for 7 days), then apply, have the ceremony, and then apply for a spouse visa from the british embassy in Sydney (or Canberra) and that is that!

He can now live and work here for 2 years, then apply for his permanent residency.

Thanks for everyone who offered their help and advice.

glad you got that sorted out - would be nicer if the partnership didn't cease to have any significance in Australia as soon as you step out of the embassy though!!

Hi, your previous post can be viewed by clicking here.

Congratulations on the partnership, and indeed on the Civil Partner visa that was subsequently obtained.
