New Job - While ILR Application in Progress

Post by ilr-tracker » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:44 am

Guys,
Has anybody switched Jobs, while their ILR application is in progress. Are there any issues. Do the new Employer recognise HO letters that your status remains same while the application is progressed.

Any Inputs would be highly appreciated !!
Thanks.

think it depends on the employer. I was told by one that they are happy to have a copy of the old visa and then the copy of the letter of application.

it is better if you put letter to your new employer with print out of home office website mentioning when your visa status has been decide at that time you are on the same status.

Thanks

In my opinion, employers who have had prior experience with dealing with immigrants intensively (eg: IBM, Centrica etc.,) would presumably understand your situation or even if you in a very specialist job, companies would go that extra mile to check themselves regarding your eligibility.

Small companies who haven't had similar examples in the past would slightly be reluctant, particularly if supply is more than demand. Would they prefer to hire someone with all papers intact if they could find one?

Obviously, it is legal to switch jobs as you are still legal and I would personally write to HO as a change of circumstance if I switch job when my application is till under process.

Most usually the existing employer understands the situation and be satisfied with the application acknowledgement letter for some time but new employer most often reluctant to offer job in that situation. But during that time an applicant have the legal right of work till decision if the last category of visa granted right of work.
Please donot send PM. Write in open forum to facilitate others too.

true

My ILR is next month. I was not offered a new job a month ago coz the employer (being a big firm) was too scared to take a risk lol. Pretty sad for me but can't wait to get my ILR done and get a job soon (i am unemployed btw). But then it is not always the case. If it is through a job agency, they know a lot better about visas and are pretty much ok with it. And if it is an existing employer, then it is not a problem at all as they would understand that you need to renew your visa.
