Passport validity for Tier 1 General extension

Hi,
I am from India working in UK on Tier 1 General visa.

My current visa validity------------>: 24 Oct 2013.
My current passport validity------->: 24 Nov 2013.
I am going for visa extension on ->: 21 Aug 2013.

Question: Do I need to get my passport renewed before I go for the visa extension?

If yes how long it might take get a new passport from Indian HC in London?

Is it true to must have a minimum 6 months period validity for current passport in order for the visa extension?

Any help/suggestion regarding above query is highly appreciated.
