it means a plan side of your actual plan if the actual plan does not work do you have anything in hand to cover or alternatives, it is entirely up on the nature of the business or activity you are into for example if there is only one teacher teaching a specific subject and right the middle of course he falls sick can not show up to the class having no second teacher to cover the rest of course means having no contingency plan here.

in other words its a back up plan .... what if you business don't go as planned than what back up you have.

Why Plan and backup plan.
THis is not the requirement of UKBA you are giving it as an optional.
Its not must.
When u will understand all this.
