New English Requirement- Just Speaking and Reading or?

Post by HSMP_MBA_provision » Tue Sep 10, 2013 10:45 am

Hi Friends,

Again I am need of your valuable input. We are applying for naturalisation in December 13. As I understand we need to meet another English Language requirement after Oct 13.

Luckily I do not need as I have UK degree but my Mrs will need to pass a B1 level test as per this document

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -tests.pdf

My Mrs passed life in UK test. Her English is not that great but she can pass Listening and Speaking tests easily I guess but writing and reading section in a test such as IELTS (4.0 +) will be a bigger challenge. I am now looking for the easiest test for her.

I searched on internet and found this college offering Trinity College course for speaking and listening for £125+ which is B1 equivalent

http://englishexamcentres.co.uk/b1-esol ... vel-3.html

This seems a good choice but only problem is the HO document above mention all four sections i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking for Trinity College courses as B1 equivalent

I spoke with the college and the guy said their course is definitely approved but the HO list is old and not up-to-date.

I am confused, should we go for this or not. Please advise!!

Is there any way I can confirm this with HO by email. I could not find their email address.

Please share personal experiences on the easiest tests and fees involved.

Hello,

The general advice for this issue seems to be to wait for an official publication guide from HO for obvious reasons one being the avoidance of dissappointment of your time, effort and not forgetting the cost that would go into doing something that is not validated by them.

The process of this application can be very frustrating at times hence the need to not complicate it further arises for the applicant.

There are similar threads (links below) on this particular issue and the consensus seems to be the same.

Take heart and be patient, you are not alone

Hi all,

I am looking at this qualification referenced above:

http://englishexamcentres.co.uk/b1-esol ... vel-3.html

Although this particular qualification isn't included in the PDF issued on UKBA -

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -tests.pdf

- I think this qualification is acceptable as it meets the requirements as described on this topic:

http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=144784

If you click the link to OFQUAL on the quote posted by user D4109125 you can enter the OFQUAL number supplied on the college's site (first link here). I think the above qualification is valid as:

- It's an ESOL Entry Level 3 qualifiacatoin (per OFQUAL)
- It's in speaking and listening
- It's an OFQUAL accredited qualification.

Obviously it is better to wait until further guidance is issued however I believe this is a good indication.

Any comments welcome.
