Morocco re:giving birth to our 'mixed' nationality child

Post by jeepers » Wed Dec 25, 2013 6:43 pm

I am a UK citizen with a Moroccan wife living in Morocco.
We are expecting our first child and are wondering about giving birth in Morocco however I have a particular concern about nationality.

Someone in local administration here inferred that my child would not be able to obtain British nationality until he/she turns 18 i.e. that the child will and can only be Moroccan until that time. From the British side, my child would normally obtain nationality by descent of a British born national and so I am very alarmed by this 'overriding claim'.

Morocco is a difficult country to get factual information so I turn to anyone with experience or real knowledge here. Any related advice on the subject is welcome, either here or via PM - thanks

A child born abroad to a parent who is British otherwise than by descent will be British by descent.
