Maintenance of funds

Hi All,
I am applying for Tier 1 General extension this March along with my dependent wife. We don't have enough funds in either of our accounts if we see separately. But in any given point in time, we have enough funds if we sum both our accounts in UK and her overseas account in India.

Does the funds needs to maintained only in the main applicants account?
If not, will they sum all our accounts at any given point in time to see the total balance.

Appreciate your help in advance.
