Ireland Route to Satisfy UK Spouse Financial Requirement

Post by scarajones » Sun Jan 12, 2014 6:37 am

Hello

I'm both a UK and an Irish citizen, married to a Canadian.

How about myself and my wife moving to Ireland under their spouse visa rules, but I get a job in Northern Ireland, crossing the border each day to go to work and come home.

By doing this for six months I could establish a six month history of UK earnings above the threshold to satisfy the financial requirement of the UK spouse visa, and we could then apply for a UK spouse visa for my wife from Ireland.

How about that, anyone know if that would that work?

Thanks

Would the EU/family permit route not be an option given your Irish citizenship?

I would agree. The EEA route is much easier and cheaper but I'm not sure how it works with dual citizenship. I'm sure someone here will explain.
Moved to Ireland: Feb 13
UK FP: Granted November 13
Ireland RC: Granted Feb 14
Returned to the UK: Feb 14
Applied for EEA2: 18th March 14
EEA2 Rejected: October 14 (re-submitted docs)
EEA2 Granted: December 14 (valid till 2019!)

Unfortunately no, since I am also a British citizen they won't accept me as an Irish citizen.
