Urgent-visa appt on Friday-Proof of Absence- Self Employed

Hi,
I have less than 180 days of absence, with regards to proof of absence.. in my 5 years of continuos period, I was employed in first 2 years and then moved to self employed (i.e. last 3 years)

1) I am unable to get in touch with my previous employer, to get the letter of absence... is it absolutely essential that I submit proof of absence even though less than 180?

2)what proof can I submit as an self employed?
