Joint/Co Sponsorship - Is it a valid process ?

Hi,

A Child (Indian) is the applying for 'Settlement Visa'. Mother is British, who will no doubt be the sponsor.
But can the Step-Father (British) also sponsor at the same time ??
Does anybody know if Joint/Co-Sponsor is a valid concept in the Family-Settlement route ?
