Sent EEA4 - urgently need passport AND new RC

Post by avellana86 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:04 am

Please help!

Sent EEA4 application for non-EU national (married to Italian citizen) on 15th February 2014. Received COA 1st March.

Non-EU national applied for Italian citizenship 2 years ago. He has just received his invitation to the Italian embassy to take his oath (the final stage in becoming Italian citizen) on April 10th 2014.

In order to take the oath he needs to present his passport AND valid UK RC at the embassy.

We cannot simply request the documents back as his current RC (EEA2) expires on 25th March 2014.

Further complication - we are not 100% sure the EEA4 will be approved, as part of the application is based on self-employment and they are picky about that.

How can we get the passport and new RC back ASAP? Will UKBA understand the urgency and speed up the application?

Would there be any option to ask them to issue an alternative RC e.g. new EEA2, extension to old EEA2, or even a family permit (the type of residence card will be irrelevant once he holds an Italian passport)?

The timing feels like the universe is playing a cruel joke!!

All advice very gratefully received.

I think the best option would be to postpone the Italian Oath cerimony until you have the documentation back from UKVI. The Italian embassy will certainly understand and it shouldn't affect his citizenship process, since all prerequisites were already fulfilled.

I know it's a bummer to have to delay such process for something you wouldn't really need after all, but I don't think the UKVI would speed up the process just so that this person can use the documentation for other ends that are not immigration.
