certified copy of passport

Post by lucyflower » Tue May 29, 2007 9:04 pm

hi there
my husband is soon to return to his home country to apply for a spouse visa to return to us. could anyone advise on what is meant by a 'certified copy' of my passport? i guess this is a photocopy that someone signs to say it is a true copy, but who can sign for this, does it have to be a solicitor or can it be another professional or someone else?

thanks for any advice
lucy

It means notarised, you need a notary public. Most law firms have one.

..... or it could mean ..... and much cheaper .... a copy of the passport certified by a UK Solicitor.

Take your passport to a Solicitor and get a certified copy of the name/pic page, and also any other relevant page in the passport. For example page(s) showing entry or exit stamps that would prove you have been to a country relevant to the visa application.

Just need to clarify.

An immigration solicitor stated a certified copy means ALL pages being certified by them even if blank. Pointless I know but a good photocopy MAY show the pages numbers as diagrammed in on the passport pages.

Anyone?

If the application is for British Citizenship, then that is correct.

But for a visa application, just the name/pic page and any pages with relevant visas or entry/leaving stamps.

I got a quotation of £50+VAT from a notary public. Then I poped in a solicitor in Fulham and paid £5. What a huge difference.
