ILR success at Croydon PEO 13 March 2014

Post by Montresor » Fri Mar 14, 2014 4:15 pm

I haven't posted much but I've been using the board as a (valuable) guide to getting my app ready. This was my experience:

Appt was at 12.30pm, I arrived at 12. Sailed through security, registration and biometrics; case was listed as in consideration just before 1pm.

I applied as a Tier 1 G migrant in the UK for five years. I have PAYE income and self-employment income as a freelance contractor (no company).

Docs provided:
--Set(O) app
--Passport and BRP
--2 photos
--Life in the UK pass letter (my first and surname were reversed--I put a post-it on the letter explaining this as well as a note in my cover letter)
--PAYE payslips and letter from employer confirming authenticity of electronic payslips
--Accountant's letter confirming PAYE income and self-employment net profit (including invoice summary)
--Invoices and remittance advice letters for every self-employment payment (remittance advice isn't required--I just wanted to make sure my evidence was tight, yo)
--12 months of bank statements showing income payment deposits and monthly NIC class 2 direct debits
--Cover letter explaining what docs I included and why (I only had about 14 days of absence in the past 5 years and they weren't work-related or annual leave, so I only listed them on the app and didn't mention them anywhere else)

After 2 hours of waiting I started getting nervous (well, more nervous than I already was), because at least 20 cases registered after me had been cleared by that point. Then I got called to see the caseworker, and she asked where my proof of maintenance was. I told her I wasn't aware that that was a requirement for ILR, and she seemed a bit confused about what category of leave I was actually applying for (!). However, having read this forum, I knew that people were being asked for proof of maintenance for ILR, so I had brought statements for another account proving that I had at least £900 for the previous three months. She looked at the statements and said 'Okay, everything else looks good, it won't be long now.'

About 20 mins later I got called again and given the 'you will receive your BRP in 7-10' days letter. So the whole process took about 3 hours from start to finish. Arrived at 12, appointment was at 12.30, I was out of the building just before 3.

I know this has been said here before, but do be aware that some caseworkers seem to think proof of maintenance is a requirement for ILR, and it's better to be safe than sorry!

And thank you all so much for your help!

Congrats on your ILR success!

Hope you wouldn't mind to help with a few questions:
1. Did you provide any documents for previous (initial and extension) employed and self-employed income?
2. Did CW ask anything related to above?

Thank you

I brought an employment history letter from HMRC just in case, but I didn't include it in the docs initially submitted, and the caseworker never asked about income before the 12 months used for ILR requirement.

Thank you for the reply.

Just a last one please:

Were you employed, self-employed, limited company direct or combination of these at the time of your initial and extension applications.

Thank you

No problem.

Initial Tier 1 G application: all PAYE
Extension Tier 1 G: Mostly self-employment as a freelance contractor (no company) and some PAYE
ILR: Mostly PAYE and some self-employment as a freelance contractor (no company)

I'm still waiting, but it's only been 2 full working days since my appointment, so I wouldn't expect to have it yet.

Not yet. It's been 8 working days now so it's overdue, but I'm not exactly surprised.
