Switchin to Tier2 after doing Diploma in Professional cookry

Post by blossommum » Tue Apr 22, 2014 2:59 pm

Hello everyone,

I have a very simple question.. it is regarding my brother who is working as a chef from last 2.5 years and is 21 years of age. he has finishd his Diploma in Professional cookery level 3 this year and have been granted a permanent job in a restaurant.

Is it possible that he can switch to Tier 2 visa without having masters or bachelors degree. ?????
(he does have his professional cookery certificate)

Does he require english to prove or his certificate is enough?
(if yes which english test should he give)

He just have 1 month for his visa to expire can anyone please help my brother ?????

Is the restaurant a licenced sponsor list? Is his occupation on the shortage list?

I should also add, does your brother have five years' experience as a senior level chef?

Getting sponsored as a chef is tough nowadays. There is a high minimum salary, £28k as far as I remember, it has to be a senior role, the restaurant has to be a top quality one cooking from scratch! no takeaways. The role must require at least five years' senior level experience too.

From what you have posted I would say absolutely no chance of sponsorship.

No the job is not suitable.

I'm sorry but the minimum rates have gone up for chef roles. Chef de partie is almost certainly too junior.
Only the following job in this occupation code: Skilled chef where:
 the pay is at least £29,570 per year after deductions for accommodation, meals etc; and
 the job requires five or more years relevant experience in a role of at least equivalent status to the one they are entering; and
 the job is not in either a fast food outlet, a standard fare outlet, or an establishment which provides a take-away service; and
The job is in one of the following roles:
 executive chef - limited to one per establishment
 head chef - limited to one per establishment
 sous chef - limited to one for every four Spam
staff per establishment
 specialist chef - limited to one per speciality per
establishment
