Is Foreign private Health insurance accepted?

Post by erlangen11 » Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:44 pm

my wife recently posted here

Im non EU, Dependant on my German wife

1st Family permit for 5 years was granted in 2007

Before applying for PR learned about Comprehensive Health insurance and applied for

2nd family permit 5 years family permit in nov 2012 on 5 years

have now insurance paid here in the uk for the past 3 years, but we had a private medical insurance (full cover/comprehensive) in Greece paying where our business was based and is international cover (not travel insurance)

Now i find on ukba website that foreign policy might be accepted

[b]A private medical insurance policy which covers you for medical treatment in the majority of circumstances may still be acceptable where:

it is an international private medical insurance policy.
Each case will be considered on an individual basis

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS?

IF IS ACCEPTABLE I DO QUALIFY FOR THE BRITISH CITIZENSHIP THAN (5 YEARS +1)

QUESTION/

my wife not interested for BC ,can i apply for myself only in that case?

I suppose your wife does not exercise treaty rights as a worker or self employed?

To apply for BC as a family member of EU national, you need to show evidence of treaty rights, along of course all other requirements for naturalisation.
to cut a long story short, you better off applying for PR first. if the worst to happen, you would only lose £55 compared to nearly £1000 for BC.

The non-EEA national can apply by themselves if the EEA national doesn't want to. I think what the person above said is a good idea. Apply for EEA4 (PR) first. This will confirm that everything is in order and you won't be wasting your near 1000GBP on an application where something might go wrong.

You're spouse can also apply for PR via EEA3 if they like. That way it will be easier for your to prove that everything was in order, but it's not necessary.

Good luck!
