When can I apply

Post by immirams » Tue May 13, 2014 1:26 pm

Hello,

I am planning my holidays for early next year. I am wondering about the exact date I can apply and the time frame (aprox) it takes to process my naturalisation application.

Arrived into the UK on Work permit - 04.11.2008

Applied for same day ILR - 08.10.2013 (28 days earlier
)

Please let me know whether my calculation is correct. I can apply for my naturalisation on 09.10.2014 . That gives me 5 years residency in the UK and held ILR for one year or more.

I am planning for a trip mid of February. Will it give enough time to know the result before I leave on my break. I want to be here when I get a date for my ceremony (hopefully). If I miss one would it be easy to request for another one without waiting for months.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I think you are OK as long as you fulfill other requirement along with

The residence requirements:
1. You must have been physically present in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern
Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands on the day 5 years before the
application is received by the Home Office

Assuming you have received your ILR on 08.10.2013. yoy can apply for naturalization on 09.10.2014.
I am sometimes wrong.

You have to contact your council to book your ceremony once you receive approval and ceremony invitation letter or the combined 2 in 1 letter. If you are allocated a date which is not suitable, contact the council to change it or book a private ceremony.

You have approximately 2 weeks (maybe 3, I can't remember) to book the ceremony once you received the letter and you have to attend the ceremony within 90 days of the approval letter.
