The Spanish Embassy in London requires proof of accomodation, flight details, travel insurance and proof of sufficient funds for non-EU spouses of EU citizens! This is in contravention of EU law is it not? I have written to the Europa citizen's signpost service without any resolution. Directive 2004/38/EC is useless until implemented and there is a list of Annex II countries that specifically require a Schengen visa, regardless of marital/familial status. Thing is that there is no uniform policy on the application of the EU Spousal Schengen visa rules. Some grant it for 6 months, some I am told grant it for up to two years with multiple entries of course, perhaps it should be pegged to the length of your current work permit/residence permit. A greater degree of certainty would allow EU nationals to exercise their right of freedom of movement, a right that extends to family members. Until someone challenges this arbitrary Schengen visa situation in a court of law, we will all continue to be treated like thieves, scoundrels or worse.
