Visa extension

Post by Last_one_standing » Tue Jul 08, 2014 12:17 am

My son is based in Netherlands and has a Schengen visa.He applied for a 2 year uk family visitor in February and was granted a 6 month multi entry visa which expires on 11.08.14.Currently he is in UK on Uni holidays and is due to restart Uni on 09.09.14.My question is there a way of extending his visa from 11.08.14 covering 09.09.14 to avoid him overstaying.Your assistance in finding forms to submit will be appreciated.Worst scenario, he would have to go back to Netherlands during his school holidays. All other family members are based here.

In theory - you can only extend a visitor visa in exceptional circumstances and this would qualify.

However, if a valid application was submitted, with a valid fee, the chances of it being processed in the timeline would be low.

BUT - in order to do that - you'd have to submit his passport, which would then require withdrawl of the application appropriately early enough to get the passport back in time for the return.

None of this is guaranteed to work in the right timelines.

So the short answer is - you can't, practically, do it.
